State Rep Mindi Messmer has proposed two bills that will be heard in front of the NH Resources, Recreation and Development Committee on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, starting at 2:30pm.
o HB 431 – This bill establishes a commission to study long term goals and requirements for drinking water in the seacoast area. Some main areas of focus are: preparing for mutual aid agreements for emergency or replacement drinking water supply where contaminated, creating a centralized planning group to encourage coordination and support between towns, evaluating threats to groundwater quality due to environmental issues, monitoring possible new emerging contaminant threats to groundwater and drinking water quality.
o HB 485 - This bill requires the Department of Environmental Services to use exposure scenarios in children and other vulnerable populations to determine criteria for emerging contaminants in drinking water, re-evaluating on an annual basis.
